Attention and self-regulation group for children and teens with ADHD

Attention isn't just something you either have or don't have. It is a set of skills you can understand, practice, and strengthen.

Reset & Focus is a therapeutic group designed for children and teens with ADHD. Through mindfulness, nature-based activities, games, and experiential practice, participants learn to better understand how their attention works, strengthen executive functioning skills, and develop tools for emotional and behavioral regulation.

Training Attention Through Experience

Reset & Focus is not a classroom lesson about paying attention. It is a place to experience, practice, and understand attention in action.

Through games, movement, mindfulness exercises, sensory experiences, nature-based activities, and group challenges, participants explore how their attention changes in different situations and practice strategies for focusing, shifting, pausing, and resetting.

The group draws on mindfulness and principles from Attention Restoration Theory, including the idea that certain experiences in nature can give directed attention an opportunity to rest and recover.

Over time, children and teens build a personal toolbox of strategies they can use when they need to focus, manage frustration, pause before reacting, or reset after becoming overwhelmed.

Why Nature & Mindfulness?

Children and teens with ADHD spend much of their day being asked to direct their attention. For example, at school, during homework, in conversations, and while completing everyday tasks.

Mindfulness provides opportunities to intentionally practice attention, notice distraction, and gently bring attention back.

Nature-based experiences offer another pathway. Drawing on Attention Restoration Theory, the group incorporates experiences designed to engage attention in a less effortful way and provide opportunities for directed attention to recover.

Together, these approaches allow participants to explore attention not only as something they are expected to control, but as a skill they can learn to understand, support, and strengthen.
